How did your character learn the language? (100+ Characters): Born and raised in Hyōgo, Japan, Shuji Nagami-Sidorova was an apt pupil despite growing up homeschooled. Her biological family consisted of her mother, an austere disciplinarian, father, a shrewd businessman and lastly her older brother, the sole heir to her father’s business empire. It was just another evening for Shuji, getting ready for her beauty sleep when her parents had summoned her to the living room. Shuji was highly skeptical and suspicious when she noticed few other men that were dressed formally. As she respectfully exchanged bows with the odd men, her parents gestured her to sit on a space they allocated for her as they soon roughly explained that she were to be betrothed her father’s business partner’s son to establish a stronger alliance to help propel her father’s business into the western market. This was brilliant news for everyone except, Shuji. Being only 15 at the time, this news horrified her, in fact this disgusted her. This soon-to-be groom sat in front of her with a ravenous expression; the man was definitely way into his thirties, she was beyond repulsed. That was when everything started falling into place. She was just another pawn for her father’s disposal. Whilst everyone celebrated, she silently played along to their wishes, however scheming and planning behind their back for her escape. With only her savings and a bag stuffed to the brim with necessities, she ventured out in the night taking a cab to the nearest airport whereby she had already booked a local flight to a rather obscure town. There she came across the Sidorov family where they took her in and adopted her. Shuji took the initiative to pick up the language to immerse herself into their culture and participate in more conversations with them. Going even further to changing her name to Seraphina, with this new identity Shuji was no more, she lived knowing that her true identity was concealed, relieved her. Being surrounded by Russians on a daily, she started out by picking up simple phrases and words followed by constant revision, utilizing textbooks, exercise books, she used up all her free trials on language learning sites. She was quick to adapt, knowing this was her new life and that she ought to pick up more survival skills which includes learning an additional in any case she were to emigrate to another country in the future. This survivalist mentality of hers helped in many ways, one of which learning Russian, which she was very diligent and disciplined towards her daily revision. After a year, it was no surprise that she was able to converse with her new family members in their mother tongue, not eloquently but good enough to comprehend and write for daily usage. As she was fully assimilated into the family, she continued learning and conversing in Russian to polish her fluency in the language.
How does this benefit your character's roleplay?: After being adopted into a Russian family, Seraphina Nagami-Sidorova takes an initiative to learn the language to converse with her new family and pick up a linguistic skill.
