IGN(In Game Name): ilovemyplanex2 What Language are you applying for?: Japanese How did your character learn the language? (100+ Characters): From a young age, Sae-young Park had already been learning plenty of languages that his mother figured he should know. One of many was Japanese, for the aspect of a potential move there. It was planned since the start; it was just a matter of time when it would happen. His mother figured she should teach him herself instead of enrolling him in even more courses, despite that may have been the best course of action. Throughout her years of teaching, she mimicked what his other language teachers did, but she also took him places where he could learn the language in person too. There were many places in the country he was born in given the proximity to Japan itself, so he learned the language more and more from interacting with other people as well as what his mother showed him. The social interactions were something he looked forward to - given that gave him a distraction, as well as his sister who tagged along. As Sae-young grew up, he still kept learning the language. Even with his mother's death, he kept teaching himself - and his sister, of course - what he could. This would continue even as he moved to Japan itself permanently - or so he thought. Living with the locals was enough to help bolster his knowledge of the language and his sister's tutoring, which he thought was useful on her end. Something she did need to know, especially if she followed in his footsteps and moved to Japan with him. Living with the locals, and interacting with them, was enough for him to learn the language more fluently than what his mother taught him. Sae-young kept up with learning Japanese, as well as the others he had grown up and been taught. As of right now, his best to worst languages are Russian, Korean, Japanese, and English. How does this benefit your character's roleplay?: It would benefit my role-play specifically as Sae-young Park given his multilingual background. He has grown up surrounded by all too many cultures, one of which is Japanese. He's taken the time to learn whatever languages he figured were important and applied them to his daily life. With being able to speak as many as he is, he could make even more connections than he was able to prior. He also works as a PO in the local Department so, even in his work, knowing Japanese could come in handy.

My favorite part of the map was the school, as for the place I’ll be visiting first is the HPD given, well, the fact that I’m a cadet

IGN(In Game Name): ilovemyplanex2 What Language are you applying for?: Korean How did your character learn the language? (100+ Characters): On top of his Russian, Sae-young Park was no stranger to learning more languages in his household. The man was, in fact, not even fully Russian. He was partially Korean and his mother taught him the language since he was a child. While it may have been stressful, juggling learning not only one but multiple languages at his age, it was all the more useful to Sae-young. In school, he was often seen studying Korean as well as his native language — another course he took, some tutoring was definitely needed. As it was still stressful, his mom figured a tutor would be the best bet for her son. They used near the same method as Sae-young’s primary teacher — with a bit more focus on reading comprehension. The teacher commonly used books and flash cards, but they also used actual vocal lessons and all for Sae-young (as well as the others that decided to try and learn the language too — he wasn’t the only one). Eventually he grew fluent in Korean due to his education but there had to be more than that, because not everything he should know was taught. So that started Sae-young taking it into his own hands and seeking out means of socializing with people that also spoke Korean. Starting off with online interactions, he started learning more . . . casual? sayings. On top of other important ones, of course. Then he ended up moving to Korea after Japan — a whole other tangent I won’t get into right now — and got to continue focusing his efforts towards learning Korean as well as making sure he was on top of his Russian and English (the latter he got more help with by his husband — Felix). He also ended up teaching multiple other people Korean, such as his little sister, Nozomi. When it comes to what languages he is most fluent in, Korean comes in at a close third. Then there’s English in second, Russian in first. How does this benefit your character's roleplay?: It benefits my role-play as Sae-young because it allows him to connect more with people that share a similar background that he does, as well as get involved more in that community. He’s always been fascinated by it, at any rate, and has spent enough time of his life studying it, as well as making connections regarding people who speak it. He will be able to further make these connections during his time in Himera, given he’s multi-lingual and can speak to far more than just one group of people with his grasp on languages.

IGN(In Game Name): ilovemyplanex2 What Language are you applying for?: Russian How did your character learn the language? (100+ Characters): Starting from a very young age — infancy, in fact — Sae-young Park was exposed to Russian due to the place he was born, in Suzdal. His parents spoke the language often, either to each other or the older children, and he picked up many words. That, of course, grew since he was rather quick to pick up more. By the age of 2, he was able to say simple, short sentences in Russian. The average for a child his age. His efficiency with knowing the language was all the more remarkable to his parents, even if they had seen this before with their other children. Sae-young was eventually enrolled into kindergarten, where he learnt more words from his teacher. The lady often used flash cards, short children’s movies, and books to help her students, like Sae-young, learn Russian easier. She would also take some of the students aside and point out things they would need to fix, which Sae-young took advantage of since he had a bit of a slip-up and couldn’t afford to get himself behind. He spent a good portion of his time being tutored after school too with the language, alongside his others that he picked up. Sae-young would do the same throughout the rest of his education, learning the most he could about Russian while also dealing with his own personal issues. As he grew older, he still studied and spoke with people who knew his native tongue. Even with the move to Japan, he continued speaking and practicing his Russian. It helped a ton when he found out that there were many people in his area that also spoke the language, alongside his husband, and he practiced it all the more there. The same still does apply to Himera, as he’s trying to make sure he perfects his native language while balancing the others he speaks. How does this benefit your character's roleplay?: This benefits my character’s roleplay because it allows him to communicate with those who share a language with him, like in his backstory! He’ll be able to communicate efficiently with the people around him, especially since he works as a Police Officer, and could easily understand the people who speak it. It also makes sense for him to know Russian since he was raised around and with the language, stemming from his early toddler years to his current day. He’s also a rather social person too, so it can make making connections all the more easier.

OOC section: IGN: ilovemyplanex2 Discord [ex. habilitation]: ilovemyplane Time zone: EST Any previous bans/warns? I have no previous bans or warns on HimeraRP. Describe your current level of activity on the server: As of my time writing this application, HimeraRP is not up yet but I do plan on spending at least 3 hours per day on the server on a weekday, as someone who’s a high school student, unless I have days off of it. As for weekends and off days, I will be online anytime between 2 pm and 2-3 am. In special circumstances or occasions, this may be changed, and I will notify those above me in case of such. Do you have access to a microphone? I do have access to a microphone! Do you have any previous experience with police work? As of present, my police work experience is limited to only role-play and a few other things notable outside of that, so let me do a rundown of what I remember during my time in the then-known Seoul Police Department back in early 2023, alongside my actual knowledge outside of role-play. This may be limited as well given it has been a year since. In terms of overall training, as a cadet, there are multiple stages one would have to go through to ensure that you are as ready for the position awaiting a cadet as possible. Ranging from mock rescue missions to simply orienting the cadet in what they will be using, this position is one that most may ignore if they are outside of the workplace, but it is one of the most important from what I have been able to notice. Back on the topic of orientation, I will first go over how a mock rescue/hostage mission worked when I was a cadet. First, we were split up in the scenario and went into our respective groups, getting debriefed on the situation after we grouped up. They would give us our supplies for the mission - a pistol of some sort, a taser, a radio, and a helmet - before sending us to the area designated for the situation we were meant to handle! We would sort out who would be the negotiator whilst there too, before the instructors would start the situation at hand. We would then approach those who held an official, a government official at that, at sword-point and speak to the people who held them captive. The negotiator of the group would attempt to convince them to hand over the official but that came to no avail, unfortunately, at first so we had to devise a plan. Eventually, one of us gave them an amount of money and was found out thereafter - leading to a fight between the two. We came out triumphant from my memory of the situation. There was also a situation - a simple one, really - that I remember being debriefed about that was a patrol that we would go about and look for problems within the town alongside a higher-up. We went around the city with the supplies and went through crime hot spots as well as through the streets in general. During the patrol, we were told how certain things about the patrol would work and what to avoid, as the instructor led us through the town. Eventually, we were shown important areas and ran past those in turn, such as the hospital. As we finished the end of our patrol, the instructor would tell us what we needed to do upon arriving and that was the end of that lesson. My second topic of interest is the supplies provided but bear in mind that these are the real-life versions instead of the role-play equivalent given my knowledge of the subject. Non-lethal items are listed below as well as what they do. These are things that may also be used in the Himera Police Department. This list is not everything but those of what I could think of. Body cameras - Similar to a flashlight, these are NOT mandatory but are becoming rather popular in modern contexts. Given that an officer will have an eye on them at all times with these cameras, there has been a decrease in complaints about misbehaving on the officer's end. These are also used in case an officer has an issue arise and requires help, such as in cases of assault or otherwise. A body camera makes it much easier to see what is going on with your coworkers and what they may be doing or dealing with. Bulletproof vests - A bulletproof vest protects those who serve against any bullets; however, this doesn't make them invincible. An officer will use this for their protection. These can withstand more than just bullets but also knives, small explosives, and anything similar. Flashlights - A flashlight is, as previously stated, not mandatory to the police officer's gear but can be a rather handy thing to keep in case. These can either be heavy and big to be used for self-defense or smaller with brighter beams, entirely depending on the model. Handcuffs - The most iconic thing a police officer can carry is a set of handcuffs as these are what will set the officer up for them to catch a supposed criminal and detain them from doing any actual harm. Most officers carry more than just one pair, at most three or more. Handgun holsters - These are used to keep an officer's weapons in place, made of nylon, leather, or plastic. These keep the weapons easier to get at instead of hassling over them. Radios - A radio is pretty simple to use! These are for an officer to communicate while away from the station or if they need help with a situation, often officers will use these for both of those situations at any rate. More dangerous items/weapons are listed below and what they do. This is similar to the above list in what I can remember that is important. Knives - These are not usually carried given safety concerns, but they can be rather helpful as they may be able to free a civilian of any restraints in a kidnapping situation. These can also be used in self-defense in case such is necessary. Batons - The most well-known weapon when it comes to working as a police officer - a baton is a blunt weapon that can be useful in many situations. Ranging from self-defense to breaking into areas, if necessary. After all, there's a reason why officers have kept these for as long as they have. Pepper spray - This can be used as a deterrent against those who are hostile and aggressive against the officer in question. It makes it easier for said officer to neutralize and put in custody those kinds of people. Pistols/Firearms - Rarely used, these are necessary regardless. An officer may use these in dangerous, life-or-death situations, and are preferred in case of these situations. Typically, these will not be used unless of those situations, and there are models specifically for the police department. Shotguns - Police cars are armed with these, in case of any sort of encounter against an armed criminal. There is ammunition stored in cars for these as well, in case they are needed. A shootout will usually call for these situations if over 20 yards. Taser guns - These are new additions to an officer's armory, but they are still quite useful. These can neutralize a suspect, getting them elsewhere safely without any sort of harm done to them. This leaves said suspect incapacitated temporarily, ensuring that transport is much easier without any sort of resistance. As of present, this is everything I have regarding both subjects. Do you have any experience with CombatRP? As of right now, I have plenty of experience within CombatRP. As DetailRPing is a constant for someone involved in that side of things like me, I have had to write out CombatRP scenarios in turn and make sure it fits the situation at hand as well. This often leads to me having to write out how my character would react to a potential assault, or even something as simple as a spar. Given my experience within this specific sort of role-play, as I have been CombatRPing and DetailRPing for over a few years now, I would consider myself quite good at such! However, there's always room for improvement and I will not hesitate to make myself better than I am right now. What motivates you to apply for HPD? What motivates me to apply for HPD is due to an interest in police work as a whole, both within role-play and outside of role-play. I've been a part of the Seoul Police Department ICly and I do wish to continue what I couldn't at the new department since I left, as the memories I have of SLPD is something that motivates me to make new ones within the HPD. Beyond that interest, I believe that the HPD is also quite interesting in how everything operates within it as well as how the system itself works! This would be my third time within the police faction within the server's existence, up from SeoulRP to the current date. This way I can also familiarize myself with how things work again and use that in the faction. As for why I am interested out of character, it would be something that could help me with knowledge about the subject, in some way at least. Sure it will be different as HimeraRP is a whole different setting but it’s nothing that I can’t learn over time — even then I adapt, even if it takes a while to do so. IC information: Character name: Sae-young Park Character age: 31 Nationality: Japanese Preferred pronouns: He/him What motivates your character to join the force? What motivates my character is quite simple - justice for those who are affected due to criminals whatsoever. He believes that they are, in all honesty, quite selfish for causing this kind of injury for their gain towards those who didn't deserve such an injury. The man is quite familiar with crime as a whole given the people he knew when he was younger, but he refuses to associate with it both presently and in the past due to what harm it does. Sae-young has had a particular run-in with a group of criminals that left his life in tatters, but that's a later explanation for the backstory. Is your character familiar with self-defense? Sae-young is familiar with self-defense, given how he was raised. The man's family was built around such, especially with his mother being a soldier in the Russian military. His mother taught him what she thought was necessary, alongside martial arts. Being raised in such a way taught him what he needed to know and Sae-young eventually would also be taught in more by his uncle, after his mother's passing when he was 9 years old. His uncle taught him for a little over a year before he moved to Tokyo, Japan, and was self-taught from there as he would have to eventually figure out how to defend himself. He did so, of course, and eventually got himself into a respectable position given the issues he had lived through and learned from. How well does your character work with others? My character usually works quite well with other people, as he has been doing such for the majority of his life. Ranging from his Journalism Club days in his high school years, his short career as a reporter, then to his current day, he has always been working around people and is quite frankly open to it. He's a friendly, warm sort of person and will accept whoever he can when it comes to both work and outside of such! Given the fact that he has to work with people, it's a given. Is your character independent or a team player? Sae-young is an independent man for the most part, but he will always be willing to work with others as this is a job that not only one man can do. He tries his best to get along with his coworkers and can be a bit overbearing concerning friendliness at times, but that's for the better as it may warm up people to him instead of it being a one-way street. He surely hopes it's this way, at any rate. What makes your character unique? Sae-young is unique due to his perspective on life - despite everything the man has been through and seen, he still manages to keep a positive outlook on life and in the workplace. He may have seen worse days but that will not change how he views the rest of his life; despite any thoughts he may have that tell him otherwise. He just wishes to change his present and embrace the future as he says. His positive and happy-go-lucky demeanor is what sets him apart from his peers and makes him more bearable to be around, according to some people. Others find it just as overbearing as his friendliness, but the man does not plan on changing whatsoever. As for how Sae-young looks and what sets him apart from the rest of Himera is the large burn scar over one of his eyes — a grey one. It was matched with the other eye which was a light blue. His black hair, tied up in a ponytail, is clearly dyed and is matched with the only natural thing about the man’s hair — a blonde streak in the front. His nose appears to have been broken multiple times in the past, giving it a jagged look to some. Looking further, one would notice the hearing aid that rested in the man’s left ear. This hinted at him being disabled in some aspects — at least, on that side. To some, he appeared familiar. . For what reason, nobody knew. Backstory [100+ words] BIRTH-TODDLER YEARS. In the country of Russia, in a small town called Suzdal, a pair of twins were born. Amongst the rest of the family, the twins were the youngest as of present. Sae-young, then under a different name that his mother had gifted him, and his sister - a girl known as Kazuko - were inseparable, despite the fact that they were often put aside as compared to the rest of their family by their father. The twins were nurtured by their mother for a couple of years, then handed off to the elder brother - Pierre - who was not ready for such a case and was helped by his younger brother, Chibi. The two of them were who raised the twins while their mother was in the military, all throughout their toddler years. Sae-young was a quick learner too, at his age even. The boy quickly latched onto certain topics and hyper focused on them, alongside his sister who was there to see what he got into - however, she gained her own interests in her toddler years too. The set of older brothers would help the twins and raise them, despite the struggles they both faced. It was a bit heartwarming to some, in all honesty. CHILDHOOD YEARS. Sae-young's childhood was a whole mess, as was being an Ivanov in this situation he lived in. Starting when he was 6, his mother and father often got into fights and other arguments due to their own issues - eventually leading onto the stress from both of the eldest siblings who were stuck taking care of the twins. Despite everything, the mother still took care of the twins and taught them what they needed to know, especially in regard to self-defense. The Ivanov mother was a passionate sort despite her own mental issues and genuinely wished the best for her children, no matter their situation - or future situations. This would be a bit of a hypocritical situation given her relationship with her firstborn son, but this was why she tried her best to redeem herself. Only this would later lead to a murder - that of which Sae-young and Kazuko both witnessed at the age of 9. The twins were, understandably, traumatized by the death as said murder was inflicted by Pierre himself, the man who pretty much raised them when their parents were unable to. This would lead to a self-isolationist attitude on Kazuko's part, whilst Sae-young became far more reckless with his behavior. This eventually was what lead to him getting put in a mental hospital at the age of 12, which he was stuck in for about a year or less. Nothing that helped - but he had to act like it did. TEENAGE YEARS. During his teenage years, they weren't as rough for a year only until it hit the fan. The boy was put into a whole new city he was unfamiliar with - the sprawling one of Tokyo, Japan. Sae-young lived in Tokyo for at least 13 years, all of which had their own experiences. He first went to the local secondary school and learnt what he could, eventually leading down a delinquent path as a high schooler. This was how he even met certain people and gained his passion for police work as he grew older. His older brother - Karma Tanaka - was why he became a delinquent temporarily in the first place even. The young man wanted to be something to someone, and Karma was a good place to start. Sae-young did what he could to make the older man proud and that did get to a certain degree - although, with Sae-young's branch out of delinquency when he was in college - it led to a sort of downfall before Karma's eventual death. Thanks to Karma, though, Sae-young met the man he had eventually ended up marrying in college as well. They had been together for around 5 years when this happened - although those years were also marked by strife in Sae-young's life, but his husband was a constant source of comfort in a hostile environment. ADULTHOOD YEARS. Eventually he graduated college with a PhD in two things - both of which he was passionate about. Sae-young's life had returned to an odd sort of peaceful state when he had finally graduated and he was grateful for it. Eventually adopting a kid or two, the man would go and get a job as a reporter shortly after alongside his husband being a hospital worker. The two of them had moved to a different town by this point - in the city of Himera. Japan was completely different compared to this place but at least his husband knew English, he was grateful for this much. The Russian man would eventually get to a comfortable position in his job before he quit at the age of 29. Due to a lack of interest at this point, Sae-young began to look elsewhere for a job. And - with that interest - he would lay eyes upon the Himera Police Department. A place he had imagined would be somewhere he could see himself joining to eventually help those around him, but this belief was strongly pushed even more with a sudden tragedy - or two - in Sae-young's life. On one fateful Tuesday evening, the young man would have recieved a sort of message about a death. A shock, this came to him, but he hadn't anticipated what would have occured as soon as the ex-reporter made his way to the hospital. The death of his husband - a man he had cherished since the beginning - was what he found out, alongside his daughter, Alice. The two of them who had been striked out of his life as simply as that had diminished a light inside of Sae-young's mind, but he still pushed on. Despite the depressive episodes that were now even more frequent, the man kept fighting. Eventually, he would work up what he could to finally do what his ambition told him to do and that was see if his presence was needed within a certain department. Level of education [Associates, Bachelors, Masters, etc.] Sae-young has a PhD, having majored in both Criminal Justice and Journalism. He also has a minor in Psychology, all obtained at the University of Tokyo, in Japan. Scenarios: As a heads-up, these are all from the first person, as if Sae-young himself is explaining what he would do. If charged by an armed delinquent, how should you react? If I were charged by an armed delinquent, I would react by attempting to taze the individual in question once they were within a certain range of my person. This is especially true if the individual was holding a weapon that very much could tear through me if given the chance, and I do not wish to risk such a thing happening. Once the delinquent was on the ground, I would attempt to disarm them in turn. While you are at the station, another officer sends out a distress signal. What do you do? If another officer were to send out a distress signal, I would respond by asking any other officer on duty to come and help me with the situation at hand in case it was more than I would give it credit for. When the lot of us were ready, I would go to the scene if described and attempt to help my fellow officer in need. Once the situation was neutralized, I would check in on them and see how they were doing physically. If they were injured, I would make them a priority and then tend to the rest of the people in the scene. Now - in the case that my compatriot couldn't tell me their location verbally, I would send out patrols to attempt to locate them or use the distress signal as a locator and head there. Whenever we found the individual in question, I would proceed to do the same as previously stated. You are surrounded by several armed individuals; how do you react? If I were surrounded by several armed individuals, I would react by sending out a distress signal as my coworker did in the previous question. Following such a move, first I would attempt to get myself out of the situation by moving the assailants and getting myself far away from them, whilst radioing in and letting my coworkers know where the individuals were and my current state if I were able to. Risking my life would cause more problems than reaching out for help in this scenario. However, if I was unable to escape such a situation I would use what weapons I had on hand in order to neutralize the criminals for my own safety. All of that while I waited for help to arrive in the process and try to remain uninjured in the process. You believe a higher up officer is abusing their power, what do you do? If I believed such a thing of a higher-up, I would investigate them nearly immediately. I would first go and speak with the individual in question as to see what they had to say to explain themself. If they didn’t cooperate, I would do what I could next; investigate their actions and interactions without being caught. If given the evidence that they were abusing their power, whether through recording their interactions or seeing what they were up to in person with my body camera turned on, I would report it to those higher than them and let them deal with the issue rather than risking myself and attempt to stay out of the line of fire if that was at all possible. After all - I'd rather avoid conflicts in the workplace, as most people would.
